Sholeh Rezazadeh is a writer and poet who arrived in The Netherlands from Iran in 2015. Within three years she had signed a contract for her debut novel, De hemel is altijd paars (Heaven is Always Purple), which recountedthe experiences of a young emigree from Iran struggling to adapt in The Netherlands. It came out to critical acclaim in 2021 and won numerous awards including the Debutantenprijs of the Society of Dutch Literature.

Her much-anticipated second novel Ik ken een berg die op me wacht (I Know a Mountain Waiting for Me) was published in March this year. It tells the story of Alma, who one day abandons a busy life in The Netherlands and travels to Iran to join a nomadic group. They include Saray, who is involved in a clandestine romance with a boy from another tribe.

In Rezazadeh’s trademark poetic style, the novel explores our need for peace and space in an increasingly hectic world.

In addition to writing fiction and poetry, Rezazadeh writes a column for the Dutch newspaper, Het Financieele Dagblad.
