On a snowy December night, teenager Siem Peeters encounters a woman at the train station who is on the brink of death and whom he seems to know. But what is he doing there himself? He moves like a fugitive, yet with a sense of purpose. Gradually, through multiple perspectives and narrative threads, we are drawn into a tragic family saga: a once-loving household thrown off balance by fate, ultimately unraveling under the weight of misfortune.
Cees van den Boom (The Hague, 1997) studied English and History at Leiden University and Journalism at the University of Amsterdam. He wrote columns for Mare, the university magazine in Leiden. At the age of fourteen, he and his sister lost their mother.
