Todd Hasak-Lowy’s debut novel Gevangen is a fascinating literary blend of satire, spiritual quest and political intrigue.

FBI agent Daniel is hunting a sniper who targets representatives of corrupt elites in politics and the economy. As his investigation progresses, he increasingly begins to doubt whether he even wants to arrest the killer. He realises this is connected to his own emotional development and his anger at contemporary society. As a result, Daniel seeks support from an extravagant young rabbi who experiments with drugs, sends him to Israel and tries to guide him towards a different life.
