AUTHOR

RICHARD FORD

At the beginning of October, the long-awaited new novel by Richard Ford will be published: Canada. Ford is the author of acclaimed novels and short story collections. His trilogy The Sportswriter, Independence Day and The Lay of the Land is considered a unique portrait of twentieth-century America. Ford’s work has received numerous awards, including the PEN/Faulkner Award and the Pulitzer Prize. On the occasion of the publication of Canada, Ford is a guest at BorderKitchen.

In Canada, the young Dell Parsons flees his home in Montana after his parents are arrested for a bank robbery. Confused and unsettled, he ends up on the vast plains of Saskatchewan in Canada, a place of refuge. There he is taken in by a charismatic American man, Arthur Remlinger. As Dell spends time with him, he discovers that he is not the only one living a secret life on the other side of the border.

Canada is equally blessed with two essential strengths: a captivating story driven by authentic, fully realised characters and a writing style so perfect that it becomes tempting to read every sentence two or three times.” – The New York Times

“A overwhelming novel. This story is a puzzle, a brilliant construction in which every memory and fragment contributes to its greatness. *****” – De Standaard

Richard Ford will be interviewed during BorderKitchen by Auke Hulst.
