Peter Carey

Peter Carey (Australia) has twice been awarded the prestigious Booker Prize, for his novels Oscar and Lucinda (1988) and True History of the Kelly Gang (2001, Het ware verhaal van de Kelly-bende). This literary achievement had previously only been matched by J.M. Coetzee. Carey’s oeuvre consists of ten novels; he is also an avid short story writer, and was among other things responsible for the screenplay of Wim Wenders’ film Until the End of the World (1992). His new novel His Illegal Self (2008) will be published in September under the title Zijn verborgen bestaan. It is a story about the search for identity and the love of a young woman for an unconventional boy.
