AUTHOR

MICHEL FABER

On Wednesday 28 January, Michel Faber will be a guest at BorderKitchen to be interviewed about his long-awaited new novel Het boek van wonderlijke nieuwe dingen.

Michel Faber (1960) was born in The Hague, grew up in Australia, and now lives in Scotland. His debut collection Gods speelgoed was enthusiastically received and won several awards. Since then, he has belonged to the crème de la crème of contemporary international literature. His striking novel Onderhuids and the short story collection De Fahrenheit-tweeling also received great acclaim. But Faber’s magnum opus is Lelieblank, scharlakenrood from 2002, of which hundreds of thousands of copies were sold worldwide.

Faber’s latest book is Het boek van wonderlijke nieuwe dingen. It begins with the farewell and departure of a man who leaves on a missionary journey that is far from without risk. From the moment Peter Leigh leaves his wife Bea, a search begins that puts him to the test. Far away, in an incomprehensible universe, he encounters wondrous things… and himself. Het boek van wonderlijke nieuwe dingen is, as we have come to expect from this author, a virtuoso, boundary-pushing novel about adventure, faith, and love: the things that connect people, even when they are light years apart.

Michel Faber will be interviewed by journalist Gijsbert Kamer. On 20 January Het boek van wonderlijke nieuwe dingen will be published by Uitgeverij Podium. The original title is The Book of Strange New Things, translated from English by Harm Damsma and Niek Miedema.

“I did not so much read The Book of Strange New Things as live inside it; in the same way you live inside certain books as a child that make you addicted to the fantastic drug known as reading.” – David Mitchell
