Marie Darrieussecq

On Thursday 18 September, BorderKitchen will host an interview with French author Marie Darrieussecq. At Kerkstraat 11 in The Hague she will be interviewed about her new novel Je moet veel van mannen houden.

Marie Darrieussecq (France, 1969) has been regarded as one of the leading French literary authors since her debut Pig Tales, a novel in which a woman slowly transforms into a pig. It sold over one million copies and translation rights were sold in thirty-seven countries. In 2008 Tom Is Dead was published, followed by The Baby in 2009 and Solange in 2012.

In mid-September Darrieussecq’s novel Je moet veel van mannen houden. a Lot will be published. In it, Solange, a French actress who has made it to Hollywood, meets a Canadian Black actor at a celebrity party hosted by George Clooney. They begin a passionate affair, but Kouhouesso (of Cameroonian descent) remains more distant than the obsessed Solange. His focus is on a major film project set in the interior of Congo. For the already small film role of a white woman that Solange is aiming for, Kouhouesso initially considers Gwyneth Paltrow or Kim Wilde. In any case, Solange follows him into the depths of dark Africa.

Il faut beaucoup aimer les hommes is translated into Dutch by Mirjam de Veth and published by De Arbeiderspers. Darrieussecq is interviewed by journalist Liddie Austin.
