AUTHOR

CARLOS FUENTES

Carlos Fuentes, born in Panama, is one of the greatest writers Mexico has ever produced. He wrote a series of vivid novels, the best known of which are De dood van Artemio Cruz (The Death of Artemio Cruz) and De jaren met Laura Díaz (The Years with Laura Díaz).

Fuentes worked as an ambassador in Paris and as a professor at Harvard. His work was awarded the Cervantes Prize and, in 2006, the Freedom Award, which is given to individuals who have made a substantial, courageous and personal contribution to freedom in the world on a global scale. Last year, Fuentes published De stoel met de adelaar, described by De Volkskrant as “a brilliant novel about a power game in letters.”

Recently, Fuentes published Onrustig gezelschap, a collection of six thrilling stories. The horror stories begin as if nothing is wrong, but gradually become increasingly surreal. Onrustig gezelschap is a masterful, spine-chilling collection by a great writer who, alongside Octavio Paz, García Márquez, Onetti, Vargas Llosa and Borges, belongs to the most important authors of Latin America.
