Dutch rapper and pop artist Yousef Gnaoui, who performs under the name Sef, started his musical career with the group Flinke Namen, which had several hits in The Netherlands and Belgium. In 2011, Sef launched his solo career and scored an immediate hit with De Leven, from the Dutch road movie Rabat.
His next albums In Kleur and Excusez Moi came out to critical acclaim, cementing his reputation as a leading voice on the Dutch music scene, and his podcast Yous & Yay: New Emotions with Pepijn Lanen is one of the most popular in the Benelux region.
In 2020, he ventured into new musical territory with El Salvador, an album filled with Bossa nova guitars and modern beats that he performed live with a 10-piece orchestra.
Now, he is ready to surprise audiences once again with his thoughtful new album Ik Zou Voor Veel Kunnen Sterven Maar Niet Voor Een Vlag, which tackles precinct issues including nationalism and the limits of capitalism. Sef is unafraid to address difficult issues, but also offers hope and optimism for a better path ahead.
