“Storytelling can be a very bodily experience. For me, the thing that happens when I write is that I feel a sort of gurgling or cramping or like an antsy feeling deep in my belly… it’s not bad or anything. I just always assume that it’s the urge to write or create something,” Fonchie Fotchind told a recent interviewer.

A Dutch lawyer and poet, Fonchie Fotchind’s work recounts the stories of hidden fragilities in the lives of urbane, seemingly successful millennials. Switching between the various language registries, she navigates office politics, dating apps, migration, and queerness. Sensuous and playful, she urges the reader to look deeper and confront the unspeakable.

Plooi, her debut anthology of poetry, was published last June.
