About Patriot
Navalny’s final message to the world, partially written from prison. A call to carry on the work for which he gave his life.
Aleksej Navalny began Patriot shortly after his poisoning in 2020. The book tells the story of his life: his childhood, his turn to activism, his marriage and family, his unyielding determination to challenge the regime that sought to silence him, and his conviction that change is unstoppable and inevitable.
In vivid, gripping prose, including never-before-published letters from prison, Navalny reflects on his political career, the many attempts on his life, the loved ones who stood closest to him, and the tireless campaign he and his team waged against an increasingly dictatorial regime.
Patriot is Navalny’s last letter to the world, written with the passion, humor, honesty, and courage for which he was so widely admired. It is a moving account of his final years, spent in one of the harshest prisons on earth. The book is both a reminder of why the principles of individual freedom are fundamental, and a call to continue the work for which he ultimately gave his life.
Yulia Navalnaya, Navalny’s widow:
“This book is not only a testament to his life, but also to his unwavering dedication to the fight against dictatorship. A fight for which he gave everything, and ultimately his life. Readers will come to know the man I deeply loved: a man of great integrity and unbreakable courage. Sharing his story not only honors his memory but will also inspire others to stand up for justice and never lose sight of the values that truly matter.”
