ACTOR, WRITER AND PRESENTER
STEPHEN FRY
Stephen Fry enjoys immense fame in the United Kingdom as an actor, writer and presenter. Many people in the Netherlands will recognise him as Lord Melchett from Blackadder and from the hilarious sketches in A Bit of Fry and Laurie (with Hugh Laurie, also known for his role as Dr. House). He has also appeared in more serious roles such as the writer Oscar Wilde in the film Wilde, or Onno in the English-language adaptation of Harry Mulisch’ The Discovery of Heaven, reaching an international audience.
Fry made a strong impression in 2006 with the BBC documentary Stephen Fry: The Secret Life of the Manic Depressive, in which he spoke openly about bipolar disorder. The documentary won an Emmy Award. He currently presents the BBC television quiz QI and is highly active on Twitter, with nearly 2.5 million followers.
His autobiography covers the years 1979–1987, from his arrival as a student at Cambridge to his thirtieth birthday. In his characteristically witty tone, Fry recounts his meeting with Emma Thompson, cheating in exams, and his first steps as a comedian.
Stephen Fry gave a lively lecture and interview at BorderKitchen with journalist and author Arjan Visser.
Please note: this BorderKitchen took place at Theater aan het Spui, Spui 187, The Hague. Start time: 8:00 PM.
