In mid-May, De man die de wereld wilde redden (The Man Who Wanted to Save the World) is published by Uitgeverij Contact, about the life of Sérgio Vieira de Mello. He worked for the UN in the conflict zones of Cambodia, Lebanon, Bosnia and Iraq, and died in a terrorist attack on the UN headquarters in Iraq in 2003. The career of this UN official is a cross-section of the conflicts the UN has faced in its struggle for world peace. Samantha Power uses his life as a guiding thread in this book about the history of the UN and the major dilemmas faced by the organisation and its staff.
