AUTHOR

J.M. Coetzee

J.M. Coetzee will have a conversation with Dutch author Arnon Grunberg about From Man to Man and the life and work of Olive Schreiner.
For more than forty years, until her death in 1920, Olive Schreiner worked on what was to become her greatest novel: From Man to Man. She had previously gained fame as a feminist, anti-racist pioneer and chronicler of South African social mores. In 1926, the book was published in an unfinished version. Now, nearly a century later, it has been rediscovered by J.M. Coetzee. He decided to edit the novel and provided the story with a moving ending.

The conversation will also touch on Wereld en wandel van Elizabeth Costello, featuring both previously published and brand-new Costello stories selected by the author. This new book will be released around the time of the event in October.

J.M. Coetzee (Cape Town, 1940) writes novels, essays, and short stories. He has won the Booker Prize twice, for his novels Life & Times of Michael K and Disgrace. In 2003, he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature for his body of work. His previous novel, The Pole, was an international bestseller.
