HENRY MARSH
What is it like to probe the very material from which all our thinking and feeling emerges? What is it like to have power over someone’s life?
Henry Marsh, one of the most prominent British neurosurgeons, shows what it means to play God in matters of life and death. He offers a rare glimpse into the intense drama of the operating theatre, the complexity of the human brain, and the blunt instrument that the surgeon’s knife is in comparison.
First Do No Harm – the title refers to a principle from the Hippocratic Oath – deals with the painful dilemmas surrounding every operation, for the patient, the family, and the surgeon. The book is also a personal account of a journey of discovery into the fallibility of doctors, the limits of medicine, and the universal need for hope when we are faced with the most difficult decisions in life.
This is a daytime programme. It will take place on Friday afternoon 14 November. You can reserve tickets (€5) by sending an email to info@crossingborder.nl.
