Guillermo Arriaga 2019

AUTHOR

GUILLERMO ARRIAGA

Guillermo Arriaga (1958, Mexico-City) is an author, screenwriter, director, and producer. At the age of 13, he lost the sense of smell after a brutal street fight that would later serve as inspiration for some of his work. He is renowned for his screenplays for films like Amores Perros and Babel, which were both directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu (Birdman, The Revenant).

In January 2019, Atlas Contact wil publish the Dutch translation of his latest novel: De ontembare (The Savage). A novel in which Arriaga skillfully intertwined two stories into a true classic about guilt and revenge. It is a stunning tale about Juan Guillermo, whose rough live takes place on the roofs of Mexico-City. The murder of his older brother by the fanatical, religious cult of youngsters from his district comes as a big blow. Four years later he also loses his parents and grandmother. All he wants is revenge. Thousands of miles away, an Inuk is risking his life during an obsessive hunt for a notorious grey wolf in the North of Canada.

During BorderKitchen Guillermo Arriaga will be interviewed (in English) by Gerlinda Heywegen about his work and this new novel. After the interview, Arriaga will be available to sign books, our favourite bookseller De Vries Van Stockum Den Haag is also present with Dutch, English and Spanish copies of the book.
