During Crossing Border, the European Literature Prize 2021 will be awarded to Herkomst by Saša Stanišić, in the translation of Annemarie Vlaming. A masterpiece in which one family symbolizes one of the most turbulent periods in post-war history.
The European Literature Prize goes to the best contemporary European novel that was translated into Dutch and published the previous year. What is unique about the prize, is that both author and translator are honored. The jury of the European Literature Prize 2021 consists of chairman Manon Uphoff, critic Cyrille Offermans (De Groene Amsterdammer), literary translator Martine Woudt (laureate 2020) and booksellers Marieke de Groot (Pantheon Boekholt, Amsterdam) and Marischka Verbeek (Savannah Bay, Utrecht).
During Crossing Border, the award is presented and winners Saša Stanišić and Annemarie Vlaming will discuss their work and the art of translation.
