Joost Oomen (1990) is a poet, writer, drummer and performer. He published the poetry collections Vliegenierswonden and De stort, as well as the novella De zon als hij valt and the vinyl single “Joost Oomen”. Joost Oomen was both the poet-in-residence for the University of Groningen as well as the City Poet of Groningen, he was awarded the Hendrik de Vries Grant for new literature in 2011 and took part in cela, a cross-European literary programme, in the context of which his work was translated into the Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and Romanian. Besides working as a poet, Oomen organized events such as Kantoorpoëzie, Dichters in the Prinsentuin, Explore the North and Het Personage. Oomen’s work was published in literary magazines De Revisor, dw b, Samplekanon and Kluger Hans. Oomen has performed everywhere from Pisa to Ter Apel, from Viseu to Vlieland and from the church to the chicken coop. In his spare time, he is part of the literary deejay collective Team ktw. Joost Oomen is represented by the Wintertuin Literary Agency/De Nieuwe Oost. Dutch Newspaper de Volkskrant named him one of three literary talents of 2020. His debut novel Het Perenlied will be published by Querido on November 3rd.
