Celebrated Slovenian novelist and European Literature Prize winner Drago Jaňcar returns with At the Origin of the World, an atmospheric coming-of-age tale set against the background of Slovenia's post-war period as a republic of the former Yugoslavia.

The war has just ended, spring has begun, and new feelings awaken in the adolescent Danijel when the beautiful young Lena becomes his downstairs neighbour. Who is she? And who are the two men with whom she appears to maintain an intimate relationship?

Danijel becomes witness to the destructive force of jealousy, but when his father is hospitalized and other important people in his life start to disappear, Danijel finally comprehends that it is the all-encompassing power of love that triumphs.

At the Origin of the World is an imaginative novel about the nature of man, guilt, passions, and dreams.
