At the beginning of this year, 20-year-old Tamino-Amir Moharam Fouad won the competition De Nieuwe Lichting (New Lights) at Studio Brussels, where he was immediately christened the Belgian Jeff Buckley. And that comparison is not over-exaggerated. His single Habibi is a sombre and confronting lament that sends chills down your spine. Whether Tamino digs into the deepest darkest regions of his voice, or reaches for the eerie heights; accompanied only by a fragile guitar sound, it’s powerfully beautiful. Hearing is believing.
His performance will be part of Huis van Gedichten.
