Sally Rooney is a fantastic speaker, and was European debating champion as a student. Her debut, Conversations With Friends, is therefore overflowing with strong, funny and surprising dialogues, that she also finds the most enjoyable to write. It’s a bit like a tennis game, she says herself, because of the way dialogue constantly shoots back and forth. Rooney wrote her debut about spoken-word poet Frances in just three months, and seven publishers fought for the rights. This unusual situation clearly says it all about her talent.
Sally Rooney shares the stage with Franca Treur. They will be interviewed by Arjan Peters.
