Since our Dutch women’s team became champions, it seems that football is no longer exclusively a man’s world. Nevertheless, it is still a ‘macho sport’, in which being openly gay is still considered a taboo. In his third book A Natural, British author Ross Raisin paints the picture of an introverted footballer, in denial about his sexuality and hiding it from his team. When his team members begin to get suspicious, the bullying begins, which grows increasingly serious. Raisin was named one of the best young writers in 2013, demonstrating the faith the literary world has in him. With A Natural he has certainly met expectations once again.
Ross Raisin will be interviewed by Menno Pot.
