Art journalist Persis Bekkering (1987) grew up in a musical family with seven brothers and sisters. She played violin and piano herself, and so it follows that she now writes about classical music for the Volkskrant. In addition, she is part of a new generation of book reviewers, and has been writing her debut novel Een Heldenleven (A Hero’s Life), since 2015. She has experienced how difficult it is to write a novel as a reviewer, because she criticises other debut novels in her own reviews, and feels the weight of others’ high expectations of her. In any case, we can’t wait!
