Filmmaker Omar Hamilton went to Egypt where, during the Egyptian Revolution, he founded Mosireen, together with other filmmakers and activists. This collective, based in the heart of Cairo, acts as an independent news platform within the censored media world, with its inhabitants as raging reporters. His debut novel, The City Always Wins, reads as a razor-sharp documentary about the January 25th revolution. The main role is given to the fictional character Khalil, an Egyptian-Palestinian American, who does everything in his power to continue the revolution. Hamilton’s story comes from firsthand experience: his cousin was captured and sentenced for illegal protest.
Omar Hamilton shares the stage with Ali Bader. They will be interviewed by Hassan Bahara.
