Daymé Arocena

Daymé Arocena is proof once again that Cuba is a breeding ground for hot-blooded, irresistibly danceable and timeless music. Always clothed in white, this singer grew up in a small house with 21 family members, where music was present day and night, and the rumba rhythms never ceased. Admitted to Cuba’s most prestigious music conservatoire aged nine, these days she’s recognised as the nationally renowned voice that connects her country to the rest of the world. The chants of her Afro-Cuban ‘Santeria’ religion are as important to her characteristic sound as jazz and soul.
