Claire-Louise Bennett

English Claire-Louise Bennett, currently living in Galway, does not write to simply produce literature: she wants to put life on paper. Her debut Pond was published in 2015; twenty stories about an English woman on the west coast of Ireland. She eats fruit, tries to fix her oven, and wonders if the cows believe that she’s Jesus. Atmosphere is more important to Bennett than plot, and her writing creates a unique account of solitude, in which the reader is enchanted by the world. “In solitude you do not need to make an impression on the world, so the world has some opportunity to make an impression on you,” says the author.

Claire-Louiose Bennett shares the stage with Persis Bekkering and Hanna Bervoets. They will be interviewed by Sander Donkers.
