Abdelkader Benali attaches a great deal of importance to language, which he considers the opening to humanity, as well as to his literary predecessors. Therefore, he hopes children will learn more about the language and culture of ethnic minorities and ancient, true literature. The author moved from Morocco to the Netherlands at the age of four, and published his debut novel at 21. Since then, he has published several successful novels, written plays, articles and reviews, and hosted a couple of TV-series. In 2018, he will be chairman of the jury for the major Dutch Libris Prize for Literature, which he himself was awarded in 2003 for his second novel.
